Model Train Pre-Order FAQ
How do model train pre-orders work?
Manufacturers like Rapido, Atlas and Athearn announce new models months before production and build only as many as dealers order by the pre-order deadline. Pre-ordering with Iron Planet Hobbies reserves your model in our order to the manufacturer.
Do I pay when I pre-order?
No. You reserve your model with $0 down. Your card is charged when the model arrives at our warehouse and is ready to ship.
What is a pre-order deadline?
It is the date the manufacturer locks its production run. Order by the deadline and your model is guaranteed. After the deadline you can still pre-order and we will try to get one for you, but it is not guaranteed.
When will my pre-order arrive?
The estimated arrival is the manufacturer's latest delivery estimate. Model train production dates often move, so we check each manufacturer's schedule every week and update our listings. We ship pre-orders as soon as they reach our warehouse.
What does Arriving Soon mean?
The manufacturer has shipped the model and it is on its way to us. It changes to Available Now once it is in stock in our warehouse.
