Stock cars played a crucial role in transporting livestock across North America. These cars carried cattle, horses, sheep, hogs, calves, mules, and other animals between farms, ranches, stockyards, and processing facilities. Hauling livestock was an important source of revenue for railroads, and stock cars could be found on mainlines, on branch lines, and in major cities across the US.
Stock cars appeared all over the rails, and they are sure to add character to your layout. Need variety in your mixed freight trains? These cars have you covered, providing prototypical operating interest along with a distinctive look.
Our HO scale stock car is based on a C&O prototype and adapted to represent a broad range of railroads and paint schemes popular with modelers. This approach makes the cars a natural fit for a variety of layouts, train consists, and eras, while delivering the rugged, hardworking appearance that made stock cars a staple of American railroading. Details such as nameplates and number boards are prototypically accurate in shape, size, and location for each specific railroad.
These Cars Come to Life!
Sound-equipped stock cars are sold individually, making them ideal as signature cars within a consist, special operating features, or standout additions to switching layouts and stockyard scenes. Mix and match sound and non-sound versions to create a train that both looks and sounds alive.
Prototypical sound-equipped versions feature integrated, motion-activated livestock sounds that recreate the sights and sounds of animals traveling by rail. As the train begins to move, or even when the car is gently jostled, realistic livestock noises come to life, simulating the activity of animals in transit. The intensity of the sounds varies naturally with motion, creating a more believable and engaging operating experience. Sensitivity and volume can also be adjusted with the included magnetic control tool, allowing you to tailor the sound to your layout environment.
Special Holiday Editions: A Fun Twist on a Classic Freight Car
In addition to our prototypical livestock versions, special holiday-themed releases bring seasonal fun to the railroad. Instead of livestock sounds, these editions feature custom audio designed around the holiday experience:
