In an attempt to raise capital, in the late 1980’s Southern Pacific created “Golden West Service” which was a program that re-built old SP, SSW and D&RGW freight cars and sold them to various short lines. This car eventually made its way to the Helm Leasing Company fleet of covered hoppers.
