Built in 1931, this 2160 cu.ft. hopper belonged to a 500-car series and was used in general service, carrying coal, rock, iron ores, and occasionally produce. Great Northern was a Class 1 railroad founded in 1881 and eventually was merged with Northern Pacific and others to form Burlington Northern Railroad in 1970.
