The Declaration of Independence was a monumental, and shocking, document. Not only did it send a strong message to other countries, but it laid out some "truths" held dear my millions. The creators of the document knew signing could be a death sentence but they believed in the ideals enough to see it through, and later to fight for the freedoms that Americans have enjoyed for over 200 years.
