HO Scale EP5 DC/DCC (Sound): NH Repaint With Vents #372
Rapido Trains Inc. is pleased to introduce the first mass-produced HO model of the New Haven Railroad’s classic EP-5 electric locomotive. Built by General Electric, the ten-strong class was delivered in 1955 dressed in the colorful McGinnis red, white and black paint scheme with large “NH” logos on the sides and noses. Equipped with Ignitron rectifiers, the 174-ton EP-5s worked the New Haven’s electrified Shore Line between New York and New Haven and quickly earned the nickname “Jets” from the sound of their blower motors. Shortly after delivery, large vents were added to the sides of the otherwise smooth bodies; repainted units carry a smaller nose “NH” and a larger, re-positioned nose road number.
